What do we say to the god of death?

Not today!

For any GOT fan, one of the heroes of season 1 was Syrio Forel played by the lovely Miltos Yerolemou. I was lucky enough to meet him and I made a doll of his fantastic character. If you ever get a chance to meet Miltos at a convention it will be the highlight of your day, he is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet!

The bunny that started it all 🐰

When I decided to learn to crochet I watched some tutorials on YouTube and did a little bit of practice. It wasn’t long before I started my first project and I found the pattern for this adorable little bunny.

I used to knit a lot and the first thing I noticed was how much quicker crochet was, it was a bit tricky because you hold the yarn in a completely different way to knitting. After I had finished this little chap though my crochet addiction began 😊

Boba Fett

I’m still waiting to binge The Book of Boba Fett so no spoilers please!

I made this little chap as a Christmas present for a friend a few years ago, he was a bit of a challenge but I was really pleased with how he turned out. Another future project I think will be working out a pattern for a larger crochet Boba Fett.

Liz Taylor

I love American Horror Story and wanted to make a doll of one of my favourite characters from the Hotel season.

Liz Taylor went through lots of changes and transformations throughout the series and I thought Denis O’Hare played her to perfection. I really enjoyed putting character into this creation in all of the little details like the readings, the beading and the eyeshadow 😊

I love Deadpool! ❤️🦄

I really need to make some more of these! This was a Deadpool hair clip that I made for a stall at a convention and they were really popular, I wish I’d kept one for myself now 🤦‍♀️

I’d crocheted some flower hair clips for a friend and I wanted to put my own twist on the idea and came up with these. Another project to add to my list! 😊

Progress not perfection

Just over two years ago I suffered a bad back injury due to an overcrowded train. Just before the first lockdown I had an MRI scan which showed a bulging disc and spinal tears, they had referred me for physio and then the world went strange.

I have been living with constant pain ever since, but there have been two instances when it’s been bad enough for me to go into hospital because I couldn’t move at all. I’m now waiting for an updated MRI to see if there has been any changes to my back because of the relapses.

A few weeks ago I suffered another relapse but I didn’t want to go to hospital because of the strain on them due to the pandemic (I know now that I should have called an ambulance).

I have been bed-bound since the relapse and all I can say is a massive thank you to an amazing friend who came over to help me get some things done around my flat, and thank goodness for grocery deliveries!

Today has been the first real day when I’ve felt more myself and I sat and did some crochet – what sounds like a simple thing is actually a massive achievement. As one person said to me it’s progress not perfection that matters.

I will have a duvet day tomorrow so that I don’t overdo it, but I’m so happy that I’m well enough again to do some crafting. Very soon I will be able to post progress pics and I absolutely can’t wait! 😊 x

Knitted VW Camper Van

This was something a little different I made for a friend, it was a bit of a cartoony take on a VW Camper Van. It was a present for her other half and I loved adding all of the extra detail like the stitching for the windscreen wipers, the VW badge and the personalised number plate 😊

Northern Monkey

This little guy was a very special commission. I would go to watch my friends do hill climb racing on their motorbikes and I got to know most of the paddock. My friend, Rich, had asked me to make him a mascot for his bike (I’ll tell you all about this in another post), and after seeing Rich’s mascot his friend Sam wanted one.

Sam was known as the northern monkey so it seemed appropriate to make him a crochet monkey. Unfortunately before I could finish the commission Sam suffered a very serious head injury, he lost part of his brain and was in a coma for two weeks. I dropped every other project I had on because I was determined that Sam would have his monkey when he woke up.

After I finished him the guys in the hill climb paddock took monkey on ‘adventures’ and kept photos so they could show Sam.

It was nothing short of a miracle that Sam pulled through, and he worked so hard that he hardly has any effects from the accident. One of the best moments ever was when he sent me a picture of him and monkey, and I will admit I cried. Sam is an absolute inspiration and embodies the meaning of never giving up! ❤️
